A personal search.
A clearer brief.
A better fit.

Kruger Recruiting helps startups and growing companies hire cloud, platform, infrastructure, and site reliability engineers. Cheri manages role definition, candidate sourcing, interview coordination, and offer discussions across the United States, Canada, and Latin America.

Start with the work the engineer will own.

Platform engineering, cloud operations, and site reliability overlap at some companies. A clear boundary helps you hire for the problem you need solved.

01 / Platform development

Build the tools other engineers use.

Platform engineers create internal services and workflows for building, deploying, and running software. Their users are often product and application teams.

Work to define

  • Deployment paths and developer tooling
  • Service templates and infrastructure interfaces
  • Adoption, usability, and team ownership

Ask: Which engineering task should become easier or safer?

02 / Cloud operations

Provision and operate cloud environments.

Cloud and infrastructure engineers design, provision, and maintain the environments that applications depend on. The scope may include networking, identity, cost controls, or migration work.

Work to define

  • Cloud providers and infrastructure as code
  • Security, access, networking, and resilience
  • Operations ownership and change practices

Ask: What environment or operational problem needs an owner?

03 / Service reliability

Make production services more reliable.

SREs work with service teams to measure and improve reliability. Their remit can include observability, incident response, automation, and reducing recurring operational work.

Work to define

  • Service-level objectives and reliability measures
  • On-call, incident review, and escalation ownership
  • Time to improve systems, not only respond to alerts

Ask: Which reliability decisions can this person make?

Set the role around the team you have.

The right scope depends on what already works and where teams lose time.

Creating a platform function

Give the first hire a real customer.

A first platform hire needs a defined group of engineers to learn from. Name the friction they will address and the product teams involved.

  • Which teams need help with delivery or infrastructure?
  • What should those teams be able to do themselves?
  • Who will set priorities and review security decisions?
Before you search

What should be easier for an application team after six months?

Adding to an operating team

Hire for the gap you can name.

Separate platform development, day-to-day cloud operations, and service reliability. One engineer may cover more than one area, but the tradeoffs should be explicit.

  • What work is taking time from product engineers?
  • Who owns incidents, on-call, and follow-up work today?
  • Which decisions can the new hire make without escalation?
Before you search

Which responsibility must move to this person first?

Shape a brief you can use.

Capture the essentials in three short steps. Download your notes before leaving.

Describe an outcome, rather than a list of tools.
